Title: early Migrants?
Post by: Napper on February 23, 2018, 08:19:06 PM
I've been reading reports of some early Red Wing Black Birds and Grackles in the Barrie area.

Anybody seeing anything? Nothing in Milton, even the winter Robins have been scarce this year.

I had Red-winged Blackbirds in Whitby and Mississauga yesterday as well as a lot of Robins singing like spring at Riverwood in Mississauga later yesterday afternoon. We had a couple around all winter but well over 20 yesterday.

I was surprised to see red-winged blackbirds at Cranberry Marsh yesterday.  I took it as a sign that spring is coming--the birds know stuff!

yep.....  8)  ...... Red Winged Blackbirds are here in the area of Glen Williams / Terra Cotta / South Caledon

Also had a Robin in the yard today..... and the House Sparrows are battling over a couple of nest boxes....

Another early bonus...... the Eastern Bluebirds have already staked out and claimed their regular nest box in the backyard....  :D

Late this afternoon at 8th Rd East in Stoney Creek I had a flock of more than 100 Red-winged Blackbirds including a female bird. There were 3 Grackles in the mix as well as a few starlings.
