More likely to be Western Sandpiper in winter, maybe some shorebird expert can tell for sure. Semipalmated and Western are very similar.

How did it behave?
Did it race to and from the sand-caressing wave front?
It looks like a non-breeding Sanderling to me, but I'm shortsighted.

yes that's a sanderling...when that close you'll be able to see (well actually not see) the "missing" back toe
