Title: Red-tailed Hawk - Do they sit in the nest in winter?
Post by: orchidpoet on March 04, 2018, 08:33:35 PM
I just saw a red-tailed hawk in the nest. Does it mean at least an egg has been laid?

Do they use the nest outside breeding season? Will they stay in the nest without eggs?

Thanks!

Probably still a bit too early for eggs, but the season for courtship and nest-building has just started, so there might be eggs there in a not too distant future.

No, they are starting courthship now or very shortly but nesting updating is likely what is going on here.

Thanks for the responses.

The nest looks like newly built with fresh pine branches. One bird is sitting there constantly.

The two hawks are mating today. I videotaped it.  :D
