Title: Green Heron

This was from Taylor Creek Park yesterday afternoon. The bird seems to have appropriated the little pond by Dawes Road.

An excellent capture of a particularly splendid looking Green-backed heron that has
a penchant for the dramatic, or is just seasonally frisky. I guess it did not
find you all that threatening. Sometimes a heron will spook at the slightest
sign of human presence and at other times it shows tolerance. I love this shot!

Thanks. One of those occasions where it took a hundred snaps to get a single decent shot. The bird was a hambone, and the late afternoon light didn't hurt.

Great photo!
i live in the area but am only familiar with the west part of the park.
can you tell me where the pond is?
i've only seen a green heron once before and would love to check it out!

Hi Richard:
There's a parking lot at the east end of the park, just before you get to Dawes Rd and accessible from Dawes, if you're driving. At the east end of the parking lot, there's a set of washrooms, and then a few willow trees. Just east of the willow stand sits the pond, which has attracted a good variety of shorebirds and muskrats over the years. The heron was sitting right in the pond when I first arrived and then flew up into a dead tree. Good luck if you go.
