Title: Woodcock..White-throated Sparrow Rosetta McClain Gardens
Post by: BIGFRANK on April 19, 2008, 03:12:08 PM
Ann and I were enjoying the sun and cool morning breeze, sitting on a bench when a bird flew in and landed. I jumped to my feet grabbing for my camera, hollering Woodcock. It sat in a shadow of a tree, making my first ever photos less then perfect, but Im still happy to have them. It was sitting on the grass, very well camouflaged in the shadow. After about 5minutes it flew off. Saw my first White-throated Sparrow of the spring, singing away and several Hermit Thrushes. A Common Loon did a flyby. A few Horned Grebe and  many Red-necked Grebes could be seen and heard calling down on the lake.  The usual suspect were plentiful.

Hi Frank,

Great capture!!!  It figures...the day I'm not there, an American Woodcock shows up, darn it!!!  Are you sure it wasn't a Northern Flicker? - lol
