Title: Hummingbird female or juvenile?
Post by: orchidpoet on July 24, 2018, 11:58:32 PM
This was my first attempt to photograph a hummingbird.

Is it a female or juvenile?

Thanks a lot for your help!

they are quite difficult to differentiate. if you have a frontal picture of the "fore head" on the juvies this area is mostly brown while on females it is more green.  Unfortunately the great side view of your pic doesn't really show this.

Thank you very much for your reply! Yes, you are right, it is a female with green forehead. Another day, I took a photo of a juvenile. Like you said, it has a dark head. :)
