Title: Is this a Yellow crowned night heron? Here he is walking
Post by: rocklakemama on September 24, 2018, 04:21:25 PM
I've added a photo of him walking. Although, I think it could be a different bird, as I moved around the corner for the walking shot. Seen in the GTA - We thought this was a juvenile black crowned night heron but someone said it is a yellow crowned. It doesn't look like Toronto is in their range, so I'm skeptical. Also, I find it difficult to tell the difference from the pics I've seen on Google. Can you help?

A juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron has finer streaking than a BCNH
and it also has a completely dark bill ... unlike your catch. That would
make it a juv. BCNH.
