Title: Humber river Trail- Oh Deer
Post by: Ally on January 12, 2019, 11:09:56 PM
The three of them came to visit late afternoon, and haven't raided the feeder.

I suggest that the deer cannot quite grasp that you ventured out
in this kind of cold and share in their astonishment. You must be
made of stern stuff. What do you wear to keep your hands warm while still
manipulating your gear? Even the bleak lighting makes me shiver a little.
I thought you hated the cold. Nothing stops an avid photographer.
Title: Hey, there is no food in the feeder!

When I got up, she was outside. And eventually she came to check the feeder and was disappointed. After I put more, she came again, but got startled by something and left. For now!

Very cute shot. Great for a calendar photo.
You remember paper calendars?
Those civilized devices that don't need recharging.

Love these photos!   :D  Deer are truly beautiful and magical creatures.
Title: Humber river Trail- Oh Deer got a wound
Post by: Ally on February 12, 2019, 07:01:16 PM
The two came to my feeder yesterday, I suspect they were mother and daughter. The mother got a big scratch somehow, and it seems to be recovering. A squirrel finally summoned enough courage to eat with her, then the deer got annoyed. You could tell! :P

You have a front row seat to watch these beauties. Looks like one of the deer has some barb stuck to her.

Never tire of watching them. You have some fabulous pix...adorable even.

In the winter they'll eat sweet cattle feed...and at $12 for 25 kg, they're cheaper to feed than the birds. Not that I feed them...which is not admitted and expressly denied.  :|

This male was quite surprised to find me home. I only saw one adult male with antlers in the neighborhood once before and that deer was quite large. Do they lose antlers in winter or is this just a boy?

Mother and daughter came late afternoon, ate my pear, and two fills of the bird seeds. Mother's wound is healing, but she is thin.

I think this is a male who came with the mother and daughter this afternoon, he is bigger and stronger. He won't let the other two eat

I have never found antlers in the woods...but my dog Crosby once while on a walk, disappeared in the bush...came back carrying a stick....on closer examination it was a deer leg with hoof....

I went on a spring walk in our bush...I always like to explore after the winter...see what I can find and this year I found a deer skeleton..it was missing the 4 legs and lower jaw but the spine was fully intact and the ribs were reasonably intact....guessing not a coyote kill.
