Title: Canyon Wren

We saw this beautifully colored wren first thing in the morning on the wall of the hacienda at La Huerta--the Orchard--just outside of San Miguel de Allende. Like all wrens, this bird is chatty, but it also has the odd habit of dipping and swinging its head back and forth to punctuate its songs. A small bird, but for me, one of the highlights of our trip.

Nice shot of it singing.. I hope to see one out in Arizona later this year.

Hi Mike:
Yes, I was, and "adventure" is a good word to describe it. Hamilton birder Barry Coombs organized the tour in conjunction with Rodrigo Lopez of Travelian Tours in San Miguel de Allende. We were based in San Miguel for the week, but every day we took a van to a different national or state park, which all had different types of habitat and therefore different kinds of birds. We got to see a lot of the countryside and to meet several of the local people who were working in or training in the parks. It was my first trip to Mexico and a terrific introduction to the country.
