Nice shot. I wonder if I'll ever see one of those. There is plenty of habitat
around but I guess I'm never on site at the right time.

i've only seen them twice. once, at the Brickworks (flushed it and it disappeared) and once years ago at the wet woods on a fence

Some bird varieties are just difficult to find in Toronto. I would recommend a very early morning trip to the Carden Alvar in late May/early June.  Driving and stopping along Wylie road for 2km will provide many opportunities for Meadowlark, Bobolink, Wilson's Snipe and other birds that we don't usually see around Toronto.

Yes Steve, I'm sure you are correct. I would never doubt you but going to the Carden Alvar
is beyond my means and I had made peace with that until you brought it up again. I suppose
there is solace in knowing that you will be there, at the front lines and reporting back in your
masterly way ... in focus and glorious.

Hey if Carden is far... and it is a good couple of hours from Mississauga, Hamilton/Stoney Creek is half that time. I wasn't looking for this guy but he was on a wire as I drove down the road looking for the Dofasco Trail. I say this because, this is a super good birding area that is about an hour from Toronto and has some grassy-shrubby habitat. This winter they had Northern Shrike, SE Owl, Peregrines, Harriers... lots of good stuff. I went looking for Virginia Rail and Sora which was recently reported plus Beamer isn't too far either. Give it a shot. This guy wasn't hiding. I saw him, slowed, turned the car around, creeped up and got that shot. He never stopped singing until a dump truck went by.
But if you have time, definitely go to Carden, it is bigger and less busy... at least less dump trucks!
