I’ve been looking at feeders that would foil our squirrels. There are lots of feeders out there that claim to do that, but the reviews say otherwise. Has anyone found a feeder that actually works at keeping the squirrels from having a feast? Maybe the solution is a home made mesh around the feeder like what’s on store bought ones, but with the mesh further away from the feeder so the squirrels can’t reach the seed. Something like this but with larger diameter mesh tube.

Andy,
I have 3 of these. The Squirrels try once and then give up and don't try again --- and I have lots of Squirrels !! They're very well made right here in Canada -- they're not cheap but they work.

Admittedly we don't have the squirrel problem that you have in the GTA -- we get reds and chipmunks (obviously not in the winter) and neither in huge numbers (at most, max. of 5 each at any given time and they keep each other occupied b/c they chase each other around)...in fact...they are welcome at the feeders...I find the reds help disperse the seed a little for those that like to ground feed -- but I have one of those tall mark Cullen feeders...2 vertical compartments...perches and openings up the height of the feeder....and I notice that the few eastern greys that do occasionally visit don't have any luck with it...
