While I was wading in the Etobicoke Creek today, I just happened to turn to my right, and saw a big Common Snapping Turtle just resting in the water. The Common Snapping Turtle rested next to me for a while hanging out with me. I even petted the Common Snapping Turtle several times on the shell. This Common Snapping Turtle never displayed any aggression or snapped at me once. Before I left, the Common Snapping Turtle surfaced the nose out of the water a couple of times. What an amazing experience.

Cool! 8) I very rarely see Snapping Turtles anymore so it's always thrilling to experience this. I'm happy you got to see one!

There is a snapping turtle at the Brickworks park.
I don't recall its name but when it breaks the surface of the water
and hovers I sometimes sit on the boards and ask it a few simple
questions and always get a snappy reply.

Haha, imagine that.

Bird Braine, does Lake Aquitaine by you have Common Snapping Turtles? Lol! I was talking to this Common Snapping Turtle too. When the Common Snapping Turtle rose to the surface I said my goodbyes.

Hi KP. I moved from Meadowvale back in August 2017, now living close to Mavis/Rathburn. So far, no Snapping Turtles in downtown Mississauga or at Square One Shopping Centre - just some people with "snappish" behavior/speech/personalities.
I will check Riverwood Conservancy and Erindale Park this Summer for turtles, snakes, etc.
I hadn't seen Snapping Turtles at Lake Aquitaine for quite awhile. Many years ago, a female laid numerous eggs!
Have sighted Snapping Turtles at Rattray Marsh but haven't gone there for a long time so not sure if they're still around at that location.
Not sure if any are at Humber Bay Park - another location I haven't visited for many years.
This Summer, will be visiting High Park - will look for any there as well.

Bird Brain, Erindale Park has a beautiful wetland just south of Burnhamthorpe Road where you can check for turtles, birds, frogs, and a lot more wildlife. The wetland is just to the right of the trail. I have seen Painted Turtles there, so Common Snapping Turtles are more than likely present.

That's a beautiful spot to visit - have seen baby Muskrats there!, Green Heron, lots of frogs, etc. :D
