Hi everyone. I've mainly been offline since Aug. 10th with a mild concussion.
Tripped and fell at top of stairs, hit my head against a red brick wall (80's stucco), major gash, blood pouring from head to toe - looked like the original "Carrie" movie prom scene - ambulance to local hospital Emergency Room, 18 staples to my head!, head wrapped up. Also received a Tetanus shot - I was more afraid of receiving this needle. Doctor said I'm tough, didn't even flinch when he was doing the head staples and this was with no freezing either.
Anyhow, one week later went to my family doctor and he removed the staples - quick, easy and painless. Told I have a mild concussion.
For a few weeks, I was feeling really lousy - headache, dizzy/light headed - walking quite wobbly, nauseous, metallic taste in my mouth, blocked up ears, sensitivity to bright light and loud noises.
It's now pretty much down to headaches, blocked up ears and loud noises. Changes in weather aren't helping either.
Told by family doctor to expect 2 more months of symptoms - this after the already 6 weeks. (sigh) :( Feeling really frustrated and impatient with wanting to feel better soon! Told to take Tylenol and get some rest/sleep. Also, to take a break from computer use, watching any tv or movies.
OK - just felt like telling everyone what's been going on. Still seeing lots of birds (nothing rare or unusual), butterflies, dragonflies and wildlife - raccoons, skunks, squirrels, etc. in downtown Mississauga.
Apparently walking isn't good for concussions but can only nap/rest/sleep so much! I find that short walks and fresh air to be good.

Had a head injury myself. Fell off a ladder and plummeted onto patio stones. Don't remember the free
fall, nor the landing. Woke up in the ambulance after the most vivid dream I've ever had.
So real in fact that I only new it was a dream because what was being said and what was
happening made no sense and therefore couldn't be real. Things will get better eventually.
The nervous system takes a very long time to heal and has very little reserve capacity to
compensate following trauma. Bleeding in the brain (entrapment) has no where to go and thus presses
on the neurons. Neurons are neurotic and don't like to be crowded and they let you know
when they're uncomfortable. GET WELL SOON.

Ouch, that's terrible! :(
Apparently my head injury isn't a "major" concussion due to I was never unconscious, remembered my name and everything that happened to cause the fall - reaching into my purse to get my keys, carrying 2 heavy bags and the weight shifted, tripped, plummeting me forward. I am now paranoid about taking stairs, take them very carefully, hold the railing and no longer carrying any heavy bags.
Doctor checked my eyes with the small flashlight. He said "Good" and nodded. I guess the pupils reacted the way they were supposed to?

Get well soon. You are right about the weather. I fell down last winter while birding in Thickson's woods, saved my head at the expense of my camera and lens, they suffered a real concussion.

Wow, 18 staples without freezing! Sounds like one of your blackbirds got to the doctor! I have a blood test every month and I cry when my wife gleefully rips off the bandaid! Anyway, we send our best regards and wish you a speedy recovery. :)

Sorry -- I know it's over 2 months ago but I'm only reading about your accident now...was someone on hand when you fell? They seem trivial but those falls are extremely dangerous -- I'm glad to hear you're recovering....I hope you're symptom free now....nothing wrong with wearing a helmet.
