Title: Evening Grosbeak
Post by: Ed O'Connor on January 26, 2020, 02:56:24 PM
I took a short trip up to Algonquin Park for a couple of days. Last Friday, we went to the Visitor's Centre and found a small flock of Evening Grosbeaks by the feeders there. The colors on the male--a medley of white and gold and black--always knock me out.

Good capture. It's too bad that Evening Grosbeak do not make it down to
the city more often. I saw a flock of them once at High Park a few years
ago. Before that I had only seen them once before as a small group that
hung around the tent early in the morning. That was near Gogama, ON.
Have not been up north in more years than I care to think about. It was
long before digital cameras, even the CD-player was a new technology back
then.

Thanks, Shortsighted. I too wish these birds would come down to TO more often. Algonquin is a long way to go for the privilege of viewing them. The first time I saw an Evening Grosbeak was at dawn at the start of a canoe trip in the park. I couldn't believe how big and brightly colored it was.
