Title: Backyard frenzy, well sort of
Post by: Howieh on March 22, 2020, 11:52:49 AM
I was watching a black squirrel foraging under the feeder yesterday when a small hawk landed on the fence right outside my computer room window. Definitely not a redtail, didn't stay long enough for a photo and I figured that's it, the squirrel is toast, but he (she?) took off and flew towards the woods across the street without giving the lucky squirrel a second thought! As for the frenzy, of course everything is relative, but things HAVE picked up considerably; I now have several chickadees, robins, redbreasted nuthatches, cardinals, juncos, an early(?) whitethroated sparrow and a pair of house finches and I'm still waiting for the bluejays but I've seen them overhead so it shouldn't be long before they come looking for handouts!

In the meantime I will wait patiently for these guys (and gals):
