Title: are thrushes back

Took a walk in the ravine, too windy. saw a bird size slightly bigger than a house sparrow, redish tail. back feathers were reddish brown with no specks or bars, whitish chest.  and stayed among the fallen branches on the ground.

I searched. And I think it could be a veery.

It is far more likely to be a Hermit Thrush. Veery thrush, Wood thrush, Swainson's thrush
arrive soon but I think it is still too early for them. You said "no specks" when describing
the bird's tail and back, or did you mean a breast without streaks? A Hermit definitely
has streaking on the chest. A Brown Thrasher is also ruddy-brown and arrives early but
it also has prominent streaks on its breast. It is also slightly bigger and sleek and elongated.

Brown thrasher in April

Hi, I went again and it kept going down and behind the millions of branches, couldn't see his chest, this time I got a better look at his face though, good for a hermit thrush. Thanks

Thanks Dave, I went to the same spot today, but couldn't find him any more. I heard Ruby-crowned singing today, thought it was from a warbler. Never knew they sing a melody. I thought it was be more like yellow-crowned's
