what a nice shot showing both head and chin. I found a dead one outside my window once, strangely it still cluch to a little twig. Dunno how did it die. No obvious wound.

Aftermath of alien abduction.
You may be next.
Okay, I will let you know what aliens look like, maybe they are winged creature too. How good that will be for us birders :D :D

Probably from collision with the window, flew straight into it.
And SS' picture of the Sapsucker is exquisite.

Although that's very likely, what puzzled me was he held on to a twig with both his claws. Felt like he was blown directly from a tree.

Look ... if some homicidal maniac comes at you with a bunch of loganberries are
you going to take flight immediately or are you going to drag along the chair you
were sitting on? If that deadly menace managed to grab the chair and break it
just as you took flight are you likely to keep the severed arm rest in your grasp
while you bolt for safety? Are you going to use that severed arm rest and clobber
the maniac with the fresh fruit or are you going to jettison the polished and still
warm wood and flee with alacrity? Sudden and unexpected alien abduction is just
so much more satisfying and I'm going to write this up in X-Files diary. Oh, oh, what
kind of twig was it? This could be important.
I managed to dig out the photos I took with my cellphone at that time, because I had to leave for work, and I dug a little tomb for him to rest. You can see the twig in one of the pics(the grey twig under its body, not the red one by the tail). Hope it helps to solve the mystery.

I would hit her with the chair, grab the berries and make a sundae because loganberries are delicious; too bad about the woodpecker, not sure about the twig tho!
