Not really... I was unloading at the Beer Store at the Dufferin Mall today and heard a red-tail calling it's Sqwack" right above me. Looked up.... no hawk visible but there's often one around so i went inside. Then as I came out I heard it again and then suddenly in the very same spot I heard the "rusty gate" sound of the peregrine! Exciting but no visual... Then I saw the speakers... guess it's some kind of anti-pigeon strategy.

I remember, about ten years ago, when my aunt was on four medications at the same time ... I found her running around in the garage with a tennis racquet and making creepy hissing noises. Apparently, she thought she was being tormented by a Laughing Kookaburra.
It took four burly paramedics to subdue her. She's fine these days -- Ashbridge's had a Blue-head and a Warbling Vireo this morning; singing Parula and Myrtles, Baltimore Oriole, W-crowned Sparrow ... four NOMOs along the Lakeshore, and a Merlin flying over, heading north.
As for the pigeons, it won't work, but it's much better than E-Z Rock.
Cheers,

Hi David and Norman,
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one to experience those speakers. I remember back in January almost going crazy looking for the hawk that I could hear so clearly. People were watching and probably laughing as I walked around the parking area out in front of the beer store and yelling to my nephew that there was a big hawk somewhere up on top of the store. We finally figured it out after a while and had quite a good chuckle. You'd think someone would've posted a sign up or something eh? And as for playing E-Z Rock, that might keep the people away!!!
