Title: Just a house finch
Post by: Simcoe on May 15, 2020, 11:20:03 AM
Out for a walk early this foggy morning in TO and saw numbers of White-throated and White-crowned sparrows, a couple of Rose-breasted grosbeaks as well as the usuals.  Plus this bird singing at the top of a tree.  The light was bad, so the picture is poor. I would have said house finch but my impression was more the size of a starling--and redder. Am I looking for zebras?

Yea, cant see much in the image.

I had to do triple take on a few House Finch's last week. They were  very, very, very red.
Thought we had a Purple finch, but no.

Napper:)

Thanks for the input.  Just in the last couple of days I have seen a couple of house finches that were largely bright red.  It was partially my impression of the larger size (albeit in overcast lighting) that made me question the  bird as a house finch.

Cheers.
