Haven't seen him for a while, didn't expect to see him at all. I was picking mulberries, turned around to find him on the other side. He might be thinking, is she eating that stuff, why can't she try some fish?

Such an epicure ... putting ideas in its head when there is so little room
for any ideas at all. Now I know your secret for energy and stamina ...
mulberries!

Nope....he was looking and thinking...."That looks like food."
A few years back I watched an ermine chasing a red squirrel through snow tunnels on my deck...eventually it gave up...it poked it's head up through the snow and caught sight of me and I swear it was sizing me up...

That's why you got the mastiff...

pffft....he's very much an indoor dog...I can't leave him alone on the deck because the red squirrels terrorize him...he really had no idea they existed until this year...I placed a couple of dish feeders on the rails of my deck and that brought the reds in....I guess one day he got a little curious and while wagging his tail, nosed up to one on the rail...and triggered fight instead of flight....now they all know and they chase him away if he's out there alone...it's sad really because that was the one outdoor space he'd hang out in for a little while.
