I cut some rose branches today, later I thought there might be snakes underneath, and that's when I saw this guy getting some fresh air. Do you think I saw him first then wondered about snakes, or it was a coincident.

Lucky you made it out alive.......rare Canadian pit viper...........well maybe not, this a Dekay (Brown) snake, probably one of the most docile snake we encounter here, never gets more then 6- 8 inches, i think you had a shot of a young one been eaten by a robin a few days ago

Yeah,I got him to stick his tongue out by waving a stick in front of him. I was just trying to get the leaf out of way to get a better shot, he responded. I even forgot that I am scared of snakes. But the young ones the robin got were real brown, not yellow like this one.

I think it's a massassauga mamba, one the most unpoisonous snakes in the world! Btw, for the first time in a couple of years, I just got 2 hummingbirds in one shot! I didn't see the upper one at first but the lower female was acting strange so I looked around and, sure enough, the other female was sitting about two feet above her. :)

So it's about 6:45am and crazy Howie has just come in from shooting the sunrise - with 2 cameras. I took the SX50 out for what I thought would be a spectacular sunrise (it was ok but not what I'd hoped for) and when the sky got even nicer as the sun was coming up I shot a few more with my old 50D with the sigma 17-70 (very versatile lens btw, I got it for my son to use on a Canon Rebel XT and when he went full frame I grabbed it back and stuck it on the 50D). I've already checked Spaceweather and some southern weather cams and will head back to bed for an hour before making breakfast for me and my sick wife...and this evening I'll move my 5 chrysalis's to a frame so I can monitor their progress. And I still haven't downloaded stuff (including some Neowise shots) from both cameras but I will soon and I PROMISE to post some shots here...and I almost forgot, my son is dropping me off at Sunntybrook H for the first of 5 radiation treatments for a thingy on my right kidney...it's gonna be a full day!!

Thanks, much appreciated! I have a milkweed patch on my front lawn (and very forgiving neighbours!). We watched a monarch ovipositing and harvested the eggs the same day.

How exciting! Sure there are also neighbour watching hobbies. You will be a fun one to watch, when you go collect the egg after the Monarch is gone. I found that Monarchs are skittish too. And it's been my goal to shot them in flight, and so challenging, since they are like weightless.
