I have had this rodent in my backyard all summer. It never comes out in the open. Finally, I caught a photo of it out in the open. It's much larger than a mouse or a vole, probably three times the size of a meadow vole. It has a shortish stubby tail as well. Help with I.D. appreciated.

Hmmm...starting to think it is a meadow vole but never thought they came in jumbo size.

Giant city-vole?
Like mice fed a diet of junk food they become grandiose
and die prematurely.

Oh, I can assure you this is a clean livin' rodent. I may have mistakenly identified meadow voles all my life. I always thought they were very small (smaller than a deer mouse).

I thought voles had short tails?
