Title: Bay-breasted or Blackburnian
Post by: argo12 on September 17, 2020, 12:07:47 PM
Trying to determine if immature Bay-breasted or immature Blackburnian.
I am leaning to Bay-breasted on first pic, thinking it is a first year male.
Second pic is a little confusing (at least for me) as it has the eye line markings of a Blackburnian but you can see a little rust color coming in on the head.  Wing bars lead me toward Bay-breasted.
Both photo'd this morning in London.
thanks for your help.

I agree with Bay-breasted for #1 and Blackburnian for #2.
Nice find ... I wish I could see one ... either one ... not yours, of course
because I want my own.

Blackburnian's would have wing bars is in first winter males or females,(blends to more of a white panel in breeding males) plus the streaking that is evident in the Blackburnian would  not be present in a Bay-breasted Warlber, which would have ruled it out right away. Sometimes we get focused on one feature and not all the features together
