Title: Coyote in Riverdale
Post by: Dr. John on December 07, 2020, 12:39:36 PM
We were out for a evening walk on Saturday, around 8:30 PM.  We were walking on Hampton Ave., when I noted an off-leash dog trotting on a front yard just about 10 feet to my right.  Just as I was wondering where its owner was, I realized it was a coyote.  It paused and turned to look at us.  We backed up to the other side of the street and then it reversed direction and trotted back to the lawn of #42, where it then proceeding to bed down in front of the porch.  I'm guessing that's where it was previously before we disturbed it.  Then another couple came down the street with their (leashed) dog and the coyote became nervous, getting up and then trotting much more briskly up Hampton, making a left on Hogarth.  I'm hoping it was heading back to the Don Valley.

We saw another coyote last night in Leslieville, trotting along Queen St. near Logan and then getting a bit panicked by the traffic.  We followed it at a distance to Jimmie Simpson Park, where it seemed to be trying to find a way to the rail line, but was blocked by a fence.  It eventually left the park at the north end and we lost it after that.

I just love urban wildlife! My mother sent me a pic of a coyote that  hung out in their backyard sleeping for several hours -- they live in Port Credit.

That's pretty neat for backyard wildlife.  We've just had raccoons, skunks, and opossums.

Wishes do come true. One walked in the ravine outside my door this morning. Discovered it too late so no shots.

Last night we were out walking on Broadview, along Riverdale Park near the ice rink and a red fox came trotting along.  Although he eyed us carefully, he never changed direction and came within about 10 feet of us.  So we are doing really well with canines on our neighbourhood walks.

At 2330 tonight I was jogging on the bicycle trail just north of the Riverdale Park DVP pedestrian bridge when I heard something moving around near me. It was a coyote in the ditch beside the southbound DVP lanes.
