Title: camera broken. Black shadow in front of the photo
Post by: Ally on March 28, 2021, 08:21:46 PM
When I was taking photos just now, something went wrong, and the pics first look like these, now the camera won't start. I got the camera in 2017, Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR in Bestbuy. Anybody knows where and how to fix it?

I'm not sure what's wrong but I've had something similar happen to me when I was out shooting a few years ago. The shutter plate wore out.
However, when this happened it stopped taking photos in the middle of a burst of photos. The second to last frame was normal but the last frame had this large out-of-focus black line through it (Like yours). Then it wouldn't take any more photos but I think it still turned on. Anyway, I had to get it replaced. This might be the problem but I am not very knowledgeable with camera repair.
Is the camera still under warranty? The shutter count on a Rebel T6i is supposed to be good for about 100,000 shutter actuations (According to a quick google search). If your shutter count is significantly less you may be able to convince them to replace it (It took me quite a bit of arguing but eventually they agreed to cover the cost. I think my shutter count was about 30,000 at the time.)
If it is not under warranty, you would have to send it in for repair. I think when it happened to me, they originally told me the cost would be about $350 (This was for a Nikon body and through Henry's though).
Once again, I'm not sure if this is the problem.
Good luck with fixing it.

Thanks a lot for the message, I think it might be that. I could see that film like thing that is out of place. I will take it to Bestbuy tomorrow.

Do you have another lens to try, may just be one you are using has problems..also try without a lens attached in  cleaning mode

Rather then to take to henrys or best buy, take for repairs  at Sun camera
in north york area. The two  don't repair but probably send to Sun anyways as they are a rep for a number of manufacturers

Thanks Dave, I think the shutter is broken, I could see it doesn't move properly. The little piece that look like a film. It doesn't have warranty any more, so it would be quite expensive to fix. I got another camera instead. A second hand from Henry's. Will take my old one to Sun Camera when I have a chance.

Are you referring to the clear panel section that flips up and down........or the actual sensor at back inside.   I replaced the clear panel on my sony myself when becamed marked, it is  not very expensive just hard to find...... get an estimate from Sun

What did you get for used?

Ally, the same thing happened to my Canon last year. I also got it repaired by Sun Camera. It was said to be caused by damaged "curtain" of the shutter.

How's yours now? Mine was never as good as before. So glad to have got a new(2nd hand) one.

Did you get it repaired? Mine is working fine. I don't use that Canon 70D often.
