Title: Spammers
Post by: Andy on May 26, 2006, 08:53:07 AM
It appears the spammers have found  us. To reduce, or hopefully eliminate such posts, I have set the board permissions such that only registered users may post. That should, at least partially, solve it.

While thinking about this, it occured to me that an additional solution would be to have moderators for the individual forums. Moderators would have the ability to edit/delete posts. Any volunteers?

Registered members #73 and #74 seem to be spammers. They provide links to a casino and pharmacy sites...

I wouldn't mind being a moderator.  For "Toronto reports" and "Board related Issues" perhaps?

If it is felt to be necessary, I'd be willing to help. My concerns are on what is involved (technically) and that I cannot be on-line all the Time. Is the spam of the usual nature that would easily distinguish itself from real postings? Is the spamming of such a volume that it is ncessary or are we in a monitoring mode now? Contact me and I will help.

Andy I might be able to help being that I have the time and visit fairly frequently, but dont have any idea of whats envolved technically either, never having done anything like it. Photo related forums would suit me and/or any other if needed and your short some  coverage.

Andy

Have you looked at the bottom end of the member list? It continues to grow with  users with spam and  p@*n  type html  links..

I have hidden my email address in my profile because of it.. hope everyone understands.  Can you not just deletle them?

can you block Ip addresses??

Quite right, Napper. I've deleted them. Hopefully this will not continue. Time will tell.

I'll be setting up moderator permissions for those of you who offered to play watchdog. I'll send you all teh details once I get it set up. That won't be for a few days though as I am swamped right now.

I have set up those of you who offered to play watchdog. If there is anyone else willing to moderate the board, please let me know. If any of you find objectionable posts, please contact one of the site admins: Craig , Andreas, Ron, Wulff or Kin. I'm hoping that we can now keep the spam under control.

Please ignore the pm I sent earlier.  The option I noted that was unavailable is, in fact, there. I'll straighten it all out tomorrow....

I've set up a private forum for moderators' use. Please go there for further discussions.
