Title: Blue-gray gnatcatcher-grackle crayfishing

I have a few gnat-catcher shots, but this is my first time seeing the markings over the eyes. Could someone explain whether it is a male breeding marking or a just a general difference between the male and female.

I saw grackles fishing for crayfish and they are pretty good at it.

Great shots there - never seen a grackle crayfishing before, really shows how these birds adapt to their environments!

Blue Gray Gnatcatcher - the black forehead/eyebrow are present in adult males during the breeding season (March - July) and aren't present during the nonbreeding season (August - February).

Thanks very much for your replies. The shots were taken in Port Hope at the fish ladder. If you take the hwy 28 ramp off the 401, turn right and go straight thru the lights. You can turn right on either of the next 2 streets and you will see the fish ladder.
