Title: Point Pelee July 5

Didn't expect much, since I took some friend and her little kids along. Was nice to be on the board walk. Black terns were a nice surprise.

I would consider my trip successful if I find one Prothonotary warbler, and I found a family.

Point Pelee? Really? Way to go, although a springtime visit would have been more exciting ... or, so I've heard. First trip and you already meet an entire family of Prothonotary warblers and get photos of them! I'm so jealous. I got a glimpse of a juvenile at Cranberry marsh one time but it would not perch out in the open, preferring the darkness of a dead tree. An adult breeding male is not likely to visit the GTA area where my birding activities were restricted. I have to sign off now and go into the kitchen to throw a few things against the wall.

Actually my second trip. Went there when I was just introduced to bird watching. So when my friend told me we were there to see something called Warblers, I gave him the biggest why! I thought not even for something exciting like eagles?! How boring birders must feel. Now me, drove five hours just to see a Prothonatory.

Well done Aly - that's seven hours of driving altogether. I did the same a few years ago, made a day trip to Point Pelee only to see a Prothonotary. However, the seeing a family with chicks is something exciting. Did you also drop by Hillman Marsh?

I didn't. The Black Terns were taken at Pelee too. I travelled with a family. There are three children. So not really a birding trip, so I am very happy with the results.

Those Black Tern babies are so cute, and Prothonotary babies too. I haven't seen babies of either.

Thanks Thomas. I only wish the male Prothonotary were in a better lighting. But I was on a timer, so maybe next time. I dug out my photos to Pelee last time today, they were from 4 years ago. How time flies!
