Dropped by Temperance Line in Aylmer, Ontario this morning and after waiting for about hour and forty five minutes, at around 9:30 AM, this rarity showed up hunting in a nearby bean field. After having the breakfast the bird landed on a tree nearby to preen and rest. Soon afterwards around 10AM it took off and flew towards southerly direction catching the north wind. People arriving after 10 had to wait long to see it hovering at a distance, but it seemed to like the area as it had been for more than a week. This is the 3rd sighting of a Swallow-tailed kite for me since 2018; however, this is the closest I ever got.

It was great to see you there Dinu. My son and I got there a bit later and just missed what you were able to see. Great closeups of a unique bird.

Congratulations Dinu, you won the race, won the gold medal for photographing a rare bird and certainly deserve the accolade since you must have left at 5 am to get all the way to Aylmer in the morning and still wait for the event. Steven made it there but there is only one winner in the amazing race. You beat him to the prize twice now and he is still a good sport about it?

Not just the Kite and Steve, it was the Kite, Steve, his son and at the end 30 other like minded people. Even saw a Bald Eagle kettling with 19 Turkey Vultures - the eagle knew who to associate with in order to find something to scavenge.

Steve is always a good sport - he loves nature, so for him it was not a lost adventure. He even dropped by nearby Yarmouth Natural Heritage area; waiting in one area for one particular bird is probably not his idea of spending time in nature, he is into bigger and better things.

The sound and I mean the pronunciation of Kettling is just exciting, almost makes me forget that I have 150 pages to read before my classes tomorrow. :-[ :-[ Thanks for posting

Great shots, you got a lot closer look than I did. When I was there it was flying over the soybean fields, so pretty good looks, but a bit far for good photos.
