Title: Quiet in Tiny, Township
Post by: Napper on November 08, 2021, 04:56:52 PM
My son and I did a quick overnight trip to Tiny to store our summer tires and start the shutdown of the place.
Nice weather for November,  there was not much activity other than Chickadee's yesterday. This morning however around 9:30 a Pileated flew over the yard and landed on a dead tree across the road. It did not stay long.
As we were preparing to leave this afternoon another appeared next door and spent a good ten minutes banging away on a freshly cut tree stump. There was no space on this trip for my camera but luckily my son had his and he snapped a bunch of images and took some video in 4k, he claims. I'll see if I can get some and post it here and possibly youtube. :)

Photo, It was only a few feet away from my son.
Dunno what settings he was using. I struggled to shrink this to 250 kb. No other editing other that an autosharpen when reducing the size of the image.

Yep, arrived Sunday to find the new neighbours had taken the tree down sometime during the last two weeks. A little sad because it attracted all kinds of WP'S but it was a dead tree standing right near the property line. My Wife has been willing that tree to be gone for the last 10 years.
It is still attracting Pileated's.

P.S. At least the new neighbours are cutting the grass every week. Previous owner let the grass go uncut for 12 months or more. They were from the GTA, never there and let the weeds grow 3 feet tall...

Axeman!

Good to hear from you! I am Struggling with video the kid took of the Pileated using the crap software I have.
I will ask him to edit it, I will post it on the tube thingy.

He has a newish 4k Sony mirror-less camera, he is a "programmer nut" with two 3D Printers.. Needs a new job!

Wow,what a cool bird. It didn't mind at all! Almost like he would face the camera and tell off the passing person: I have a name and it's not red head!

Way cool! You got a RC woodpecker for Christmas. It's so life-like. Who's at the controls? I think it has a glitch by getting stuck in repeat mode but if you bang the bill against your neighbours window three times it should rectify the error. Sometimes the logic circuit gets tarnished and the bird becomes .... well, ... I think the term is illogical. What's the battery life on one of those suckers. The males use less energy because they never do anything useful, or so I've heard.
