Title: Seeking nests in knotweed
Post by: Erik Kiviat on November 28, 2021, 02:45:43 PM
Good afternoon! For a research project I'm seeking documentation of bird nesting in knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum = Fallopia japonica = Reynoutria japonica). Nests are easy to spot after the leaves fall. Please see attachment for details.

I've seen lots of Japanese knotweed along the Don River, particularly between the Riverdale Park pedestrian bridge and the Bloor viaduct.  I haven't been on those paths since the leaves have fallen so I don't know if nests are obvious, but now would be the time to take a look.
