Title: Can Anyone ID this bird at my feeder?
Post by: Axeman on February 28, 2022, 09:08:22 PM
I found this guy at my feeders up in McKellar (Parry Sound area)....it was on it's own feeding with a flock of goldfinches...as you can see it looks pretty much like a goldfinch (to my failing eyes anyway) just 4 to 5 times larger.....I'd be grateful if someone could ID it for me.....

Yes...and the lucky ones get paid to be a critic...

OK the pix I see online show some pink on the head of PG's...and I didn't see any pink on this one....just.....wondering. I'd hate to criticize your ID after your help and adding to my list.

Male Pine Grosbeak has some red (pink) while the females are a dirty greenish-orange. I swear, is that even a colour? I don't need much of a reason to swear. Den dares dat mean-ol Cossack-finch dat hass no respekt foor any colure flack, I mean plumage.

I'm really racking up the Grosbeaks....I see Rose Breasted at home all the time....I saw Evening Grosbeaks I think it was last fall or maybe fall before that....and now the Pine....
