It's been a long time and much has happened in my life since my last post (more about that later). A male hummingbird showed up about half an hour ago and is visiting the feeder every ten minutes or so. I took a few lousy shots through the computer room window and will try to open an upstairs window for a clear shot. If I spook him and he returns it probably means he's here to stay; wish me luck!

I haven't seen any hummingbirds since last week so the first males probably continued on their northward migration. If things go according to plan my regulars should arrive today or tomorrow. In the meantime the chickadees and the red breasted nuthatches are really enjoying the feeder. My son got me another hummingbird feeder for my last (I hope not!) birthday and we are still trying to decide where to put it.

I told my son that my "regulars" would probably arrive late today and sure enough my first female came to the feeder around 7pm. She had a long feed and returned twenty minutes later, but instead of going to the feeder she sipped from the forsythia at the back of the yard before disappearing into the trees in my neighbor's yard. Past experience tells me she will show up at sunrise so I'll probably be outside waiting before 6am!

Go figure?? Not much doing until last evening when two females and the male all showed up at once! And of course he did his Rain Dance and was probably rejected by both females (I know the feeling). Sun's coming out so I'm headed out to the back for some entertainment and, with a bit of luck, some non feeder photos.
