Title: A Rouge field that wasn't a rouge field
Post by: Shortsighted on October 12, 2023, 06:17:05 PM
This morning I was going to maybe drop by Reesor pond but I stopped at a Rouge field instead and found that it wasn't really a rouge field, despite the token red from a single male cardinal. This field was more yellow, anemic green, oozing jauntice-looking yellow-brown. The nauseating palette was quickly forgotten when I saw sparrows everywhere. Almost all of them were White-throated sparrows, but there was also a few juvenile White-crowned sparrows and even a single Swamp sparrow. I stood very still within the shade of a small bush letting the birds get use to my presence. I heard something within the bush, turned my head a saw a Winter wren barely 20 inches away from me and staring at me. Turns out, not all the flighty birds were sparrows. There were also Ruby-crowned kingets and Palm warblers. Unfortunately, I didn't see any Orange-crowned warblers. After a while I also spotted a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hermit thrush and an Eastern Phoebe.
