Hi everyone. Happy New Year 2024! :) What was your first bird sighted for this year? My FOY was an American Robin here in Mississauga pecking at something in front of the house at end of the driveway.

Juncos in the backyard.

Cool. 8) . Could you tell if they were males or females? How many did you see?

There were 3 that time. We usually only have a few in the backyard, maybe up to 5-6 at times. I know you are supposed to distinguish the sexes by the colour but I can't always reliably do that.

Nice. They are cute little birds. :)

Unfortunately, didn’t have a good New Year Day, so can’t remember my FOY, but would have been the usual suspects at my feeders or Wild Turkey, as my husband feeds them every morning that they show up. There have been Common Goldeye on the river and think there was a Common Merganser too.
Good birding for everyone for the year, already looking forward to the two weeks at Rondeau!!!!!

Wild Turkey
To this day, I still haven't seen a Wild Turkey when out birding. Would be thrilling to see one or more.! :D

The same to you! When are you going to Rondeau?

I am in Southwest Caledon and often see them just driving around, us driving, not the birds!!!!
First two weeks of May we are at Rondeau. Might and that is a big might head over to Pelee one day, but the stories last year of how crowded it was. Really like Rondeau, as great for biking too.
