Title: Frenzy at the Feeder, Milton
Post by: Napper on February 08, 2024, 11:09:15 AM
The last 4 days have brought a major increase in activity at our small feeder. I have noticed an increase in House finch numbers, Gold Finch's are actually visiting the feeder. Had a Downy visit the feeder. The Robin count has risen from 5 or 6 to more than 20. The fruit on Crab Apple tree behind the house is almost done.
Yesterday I was retrieving the recycling box's from the street mid afternoon when a bird of prey landed in the tree across the street. It flew into the neighbours back yard and scared up a group of Doves. I couldn't ID the bird as it happened very fast But it was not a Female Coopers and it was not a Male Sharpie.
Napper :)  Fog today.

Ya, me too. Some days I'm also in a sort of fog; aimlessly navigating through a miasma of lethargy, caught in a quagmire of insipid sensibility, incapable of distinguishing between a raptor and an aardvark. It'll pass, just like gas, and then the sun comes out to vapourize the cobwebs to reveal, as clear as day, an actual aardvark talking to a hawk, pausing their conspiratorial exchange from time to time to look in my direction just to let me know that from henceforward I need to watch my back. You may not have experienced your fog in quite the same fashion because your mushrooms are not as potent as mine.

Anyway, I'm glad that you're seeing some action in your backyard and that it is reminding you of the possibility of an early spring.  Ain't fantasy grand?

I wonder if the bird will stick around or return?  Would be interesting to know which bird of prey this is!

Yesterday morning was major fog right up to the windows!  Driving alerts were issued due to extreme lack of visibility conditions.

This morning looking out the window at rain.  Today and tomorrow supposed to be mild but rainy.  Sunday onwards supposed to be cold with windchill around -7c/-9c.   :P
