Title: Vireo?
Post by: moratorian on July 05, 2008, 11:44:04 AM
I observed this bird at Tiny Marsh on July 1st. I think it's a vireo but am not sure. If it is, which one? Any suggestions?

Mike,

You have a marsh wren there.

Cheers

Thanks Greg,

I listened to a recording of it's song which is very distinctive, and although the pictures I have make identification difficult the song confirms your ID.

I just saw these images after looking at the swallow.  It's hard to tell by the colour, but the stance is classic Marsh Wren captured in song.

They don't usually pose for more than a few seconds.  You must have either had good luck or lots of patience to capture those shots!

Actually it was a bit of both. I could hear the bird in the reeds by the marsh and it was distinctive enough that it caught my attention, but it refused to show itself. I kept following it as it moved back and forth until it finally showed itself. By this time I had my camera ready.
