As reported on TO sightings, I ventured to the Oshawa lakefront to check on the Piping plover chicks that I couldn't locate during my last visit. This time I approached the restricted zone (RZ) from the east side (Darlington) so that I would have the sun behind me. I spotted a couple of juvenile Piping plovers a little west of the mid-zone of the RZ but they were now near juvenile plovers, without the details of an adult and a pale dusty colour as if they had talcum powder sprinkled over them ... in other words ... low contrast plumage. After a while one juvi started heading east toward my position on the perimeter fence. I took a shot with a 2X TC on-board giving me 600mm but I don't expect much with that arrangement. The result is the first shot below. When it looked like a pair of Sanderling were also headed my way I replaced my 2X with a 1.4X TC, which works much better. All the other shots were likely taken that way (420mm). After the Sanderlings headed further east a Least sandpiper appeared.

They are so cute. Great captures.
I often wonder what happened to the piping plover family, whom (or which?) I followed with photos and videos three summers ago.
