Title: Ever Elusive Pileated
Post by: Napper on May 26, 2025, 05:48:18 PM
Interesting day close to the beach.
Had Hummingbirds buzzing around  the feeders, the oriole feeder and the Lilacs multiple times
Had a Gray Catbird on one of our apple trees that has blossoms surprisingly!
We were sitting on the deck around 4pm when we spotted a Pileated bouncing around in one of the Oak trees across the street. It never presented itself for a propper image. Heavily Backlit. GRR.
Male Am Goldfinch has adopted red feeder all to itself Munching away for 20 minutes or so.

Exciting times, for sure.  I appreciate your enthusiasm, which comes through in your text.  As far as back-lit goes, every time I go out with camera in tow I think how often I spot a bird that is positioned directly into the sun.  This isn't coincidence.  It happens all the time.  Between shooting into the sun and being interrupted by canine agents and there security detail I sometimes wonder why I even bother.  I guess that I'm still upset by missing a Wilson's warbler today by the dog show, which is always held in the park and comes with exhaustive deliberations between owners and the judges (other owners).  Of course, then I remind myself that these various parks, within the GTA, would not even exist if it was not for pet owners.  Dogs are their raison d'etre.  Parks were not planned for birders.  I read that somewhere.
