Title: Common Terns?
Post by: Napper on July 30, 2008, 03:19:43 PM
Hey!!

finally got internet connection her in  Tiny

We walk the beach South from the Public Beach at Balm Beach every evening.. (yes!! we avoid the fence)

A Tern flys continually up and down the beach front occasionally  it dives for food in the shallow water  then it returns to feed its young.

I assume this is a Common Tern and its young.. I can't tell the difference..  I know it isn't a Caspian Tern.

p.s.  it took a few days but the birds have found my feeders (chickadee's, White breasted nuthacthes, Song sparrows)

I spotted a Pileated in the tree above our place plus Northern flickers yesterday morning..

The adult's head in the first photo looks quite Caspian-like, but it's just the angle.  They are Common Terns.
