Title: Counting Purple Finch (s)
Post by: Napper on August 27, 2025, 03:09:08 PM
So since last week I have had at least 2 female Purple Finch(S)

4 or possible 5 Males. Prior to this I have had no confirmed purple finch here at the beach. See mystery bird from 2023in my previous post

The two males or possible males I spotted today below, the first two are the same bird. The third is the unknown.

That's an excellent photograph of a male Purple finch.  I really like it.  The angle of capture and the even light on the bird clearly shows the flanks of the finch as having a wash of red/purple that gradually diminishes toward the flank and belly.  Classic!  NOT at all what one would see on a House finch, which has brown streaking on the sides.  There's really only one thing wrong with this shot.  It's not mine.
