Title: Still have Orioles
Post by: edonnell on June 01, 2006, 11:57:28 PM
I am really surprised-- we still have two male Orioles coming to the feeder-( haven't seen the females for a while) . Thay were a little late arriving this year, but have never hung around this long before.
One is really funny-- the reservoir on the feeder is transparent and he keeps stretching way up and hitting it lightly with his beak-- guess he feels it is the jackpot, and the feeding hole inadequate.

Hello Ed

This afternoon a  Pair of Baltimore Orioles were in the tree in my yard.

I was sitting in my garage watching a car race and heard an odd call.

Grabbed the camera and headed on to the deck. At the very top of the tree swaying in the wind was a male Baltimore oriole.

I tried to get a few shots.. not very good. The Female showed up and they departed.

Earlier in the day I spotted an unusual bird in the Russian olive tree next door. It turned out to be the female.

The male is spectacular. The only image that really turned out shows a orange stripe on top of the wings running along the body

with the white banding on the wings..    Napper

Ive seen more Orioles in the last month, than I have in the past 10 years in Durham region. In those ten years my Oriole count was 1. At first I thought maybe it was because my daughter and I have just started "birding" this year and paying attention where before we might have simply overlooked them. Aside from simply spotting and seeing them in various places, we also have atleast 2 hanging around our yard, with 1 taking a shine to a particualr tree just behind our property.
