I was down at Lake Ontario in Port Credit yesterday (Wed. Aug. 13) and saw hundreds of Cormorants out on the lake. This was most unusual. Usually there are a few but never this many. Then, just to make things more interesting, a police boat came along and began to "herd" the Cormorants further west and it was making sure there were no stragglers left behind. What's going on? Is this related to them cutting down the Cormorant population at the Spit.?

I thought they would just oil the eggs. "Herding" birds seems very inefficient.
