A friend and I will be in Ottawa for a few days next week. Can anyone recommend any good spots that aren't too far from the city? We'll have a car and I have a scope. Thank you.

This is the best guide I can think of, short of hiring Tony Beck or Bruce DiLabio

Britannia Woods and Andrew Haydon Park are very good at this time of the year. Shirley's Bay is best done with someone local for the 1st time.

If you're there on Sep 6, you can join the OFO field trip.

September 6 (Saturday) Ottawa [until Noon]
Leader: Dave Moore.

Meet 7:30 a.m. along Cassels Road, outside gate to Britannia Filtration Plant. Experience the diversity of Ottawa’s avifauna during the peak of Fall migration. Expect warblers, sparrows, waterfowl, shorebirds, gulls and others. Study subtle differences between similar species as we explore the Ottawa River from different vantage points. We start at Britannia and move slowly west, visiting some of Eastern Ontario’s best migratory staging areas.
