Title: one less dunlin on the spit
Post by: Pat Hodgson on June 04, 2006, 09:03:50 PM
Today on the Leslie St. spit I watched a peregrine (banded) pluck and start to eat a dunlin.  Especially unfortunate for the dunlin, as it wasn't even dead yet.  This all transpired on a street light right over the road.

Lots of willow flycatchers and warbling vireos singing out there.

I did not see the chase or capture part of this drama.  I was biking and came upon the falcon already perched.

It was not easy to watch that dunlin try to get away, but a peregrine's gotta eat too.  Too bad they don't eat more ring-billed gulls.
