Title: Possible Wolf West of Kingston

A friend of mine shot this image last evening near Howe Island, the facial area sure looks like a wolf but I could be wrong. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Wow that's pretty exciting (even though this is in the wrong forum...)

Whereabouts was it spotted and I'm guessing that's a deer its feeding on...are there any anecdotal reports of wolves in the area?

Although looking at the pictures of it in flight it looks like its a coyote -- based on tail down...could it be a hybrid? GSD / coy?

Wasn't aware of any other sites to post so figured this would be okay, there was a deer kill in the same field. No other reports from the area.

Most of what I have read indicates that the Eastern wolf exist from Huntsville north, including the ROMs map, http://www.rom.on.ca/ontario/risk.php?d ... map&id=287 (http://www.rom.on.ca/ontario/risk.php?doc_type=map&id=287)

It doesn't look like a Grey Wolf. The shape of the face and size don't look right.

We have Eastern wolves, but they've hybridized with coyotes in Ontario so much that we don't have many pure Eastern wolves left.

We were in Riding Mountain NP (Manitoba) this year where they have 10 packs of wolves and learn a fair bit about them.

Grey wolves are quite big - we saw one dark morph grey wolf and it was so big we thought we had a black bear. Except for loners, grey wolves are always found in packs.

Either case, that's _way_ out of the range for a wolf, especially since wolves don't like to be near people and populated areas but coyotes thrive in southern ontario.

If you really want a huge number of hits, you could tag your coyote with "chupracabra".
