Title: Where do birds sleep at night? (winter & summer)

I have always wondered where birds like starlings & other birds we see everyday sleep??  :?:

look ounder the gardener at the donvally in Toronto !! 10000. of them every night ...

Thanks for the reply, I have often seen large numbers of (what are those small brown birds called again?), like the finchs' in trees & bushes around my house late in the evenings & always suspected they slept there.

Our previous house had a west facing, 2nd floor window that had a metal awning.  One week, one very cold winter, I noticed 2 house sparrows would be sleeping on a narrow ledge on the underside of the awning.  Funnily, they would not huddle together, but would be at opposite ends.  Soon there was only one, then it was gone too.
