Title: RFI: flock in flight silhouette
Post by: killdozer on December 06, 2008, 09:15:51 AM
Perhaps a tough one for those who like a challenge.

Photographed at Port Burwell on the north shore of Lake Erie on November 1, 2008, just before dawn at high ISO. I've lightened the image considerably, but it's so noisy, they might as well be solid silhouettes. The wash of pink on some of the birds may be from the very early morning light.

About the size of a robin; they passed through in waves of 20-30. RW Blackbirds?

Thanks in advance.

I think you're right about them being Red-winged Blackbirds.  They appear to actually be black or very dark.  I don't think they are completely silhouettes.  The broad rounded wings, size, and behavior all suggest RW Blackbird to me.
