Title: Crossbills in Sunnybrook Park
Post by: Ed O'Connor on December 16, 2008, 08:49:38 AM
Sorry for the late posting, but on Sunday, while participating in the Christmas Bird Count, Bruce Massey and I found six White-Winged Crossbills on the playing fields at the top of Sunnybrook Park. Evenly divided between males and females, the birds were in a small grove of pines on the south side of the fields, just before the hardwood forest that covers the hillside there. These birds move around a lot, but now that their presence has been established, it would be worth checking stands of evergreens in the Sunnybrook-Wilket Creek-Serena Gundy complex and even down into ET Seton Park for a sight of these beautiful winter finches.
