Title: Birds flying into windows: A Cardinal flew into my...

A bright red (male?) Cardinal flew into my... backyard sliding door & is not dead yet but cannot fly. Obviously injured bad. So what can I do?? Feeling totally helpless as the female  is circling.  Also noticed a morning Dove did the same a few hours earlier but not in full speed.... tragic.  Any ideas?   :(

You can get window collision static cling decals for your windows to stop the impacts.

Also, you can hang any light weight item in front of the window in fishing line. Feathers work well for this method.

If you've found a bird that has struck a window, or appears injured, the FLAP (Fatal Light Awareness Program) has a quick 'First Aid for Wild Birds' checklist that should help.

I found a few sparrows in my backyard this year suffering from fence strikes (at least I think they were fence strikes) and promptly did the research to figure out if there was anything I could do.

Thanks for your replies!! Thankfully no others have ... however this past weekend a Morning Dove did nose-dive into our neighbors back yard ... into a snow bank.  Weird.
